![]() As a result, this treatise is a must-read for anyone who handles a deck of cards or plays cards for money. I know it’s pretentious to even buy an edition like this, but if you’re going to do it- do it right.Of the thousands of books written on card manipulation in the last century, few works are more important or highly regarded than The Expert at the Card Table by S.W. This is reworked aesthetically and as a result I don’t understand why it exists as a supposedly faithful recreation. That’s what’s being advertised in the blurb here and unfortunately not what you get. Why would anyone buy a £30 edition of a book which can be bought easily for £7? Because the edition is faithful to the design of the original, which has became totally iconic amongst people who love cards. I found this really disappointing as that’s the entire reason why anyone would buy this exact edition. It’s a grey hardback with a simple spine. You can see a reworked dust jacket design in the preview on this page but the beautiful green hardback with the rectangular logo which has been constantly referenced over the years is not underneath. I believe the text inside to be utterly faithful to the original first edition but aesthetically it looks nothing like it. This is for those looking to buy the now iconic green coloured edition hardback- this is not it.
